Suggestions for extremely bad dog breath??
One of my dogs is in remission from cancer. Because of his cancer, both of the dogs get a cooked, organic diet of meat, veggies and rice. This has wreaked havoc on their breath. I notice that when they chew rawhides it seems to improve for a day. But then it's back to the hellish breath. The mints, the dog deodorizing water, etc don't work. They're 6 years old and won't stand to have their teeth brushed. So that leaves me with a search for an alternative. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Get a good quality rope toy...the one that is just braided string tied in a big knot. They are at all pet supplies, and in the HartzMountain display at your grocer's. (Don't get a dollar store one)..Soak it overnight in un salted chicken or beef broth. Dry it in a slow oven. Your dog should enjoy chewing on this, and it acts as dental floss to keep the mouth fresh... I live with 5 X-large dogs indoors, and this really works for us. My dogs range from 2 to 10 years old, and they all love the ropes.
When the flavor is all chewed out (about 3 months), or it gets too stinky, just wash with plain hot water, re soak and dry.
